What's New... Latest news and updates will be posted here, please check back often. Rob Laurent was serving as a Tank Armor Crewman when he was severely injured during an IED ambush near Samarra, Iraq on Christmas Eve, 2004. Evacuated first to Germany and then to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Rob lost an eye and suffered a partially amputated left hand as the result of the explosion. Now medically retired from the Army, he credits his unusually short stay at Walter Reed to the excellent care he received there. Rob was encouraged to apply for an Able Flight scholarship by an outreach officer of the Wounded Warrior Project. In 2008 he graduated from the Criminal Justice program at Texas State University, and is working on his master's degree. Rob completed his flight training with us in Florida in May of 2009, passing his check ride to become a licensed pilot. Now, he looks forward to being able to "show others in similar situations that through hard work and opportunity we can do things that we, or others, thought we could never do."
